prep & pep Frequently asked questions

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) are preventive medications used to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. PrEP is taken regularly by HIV-negative individuals to lower their chances of acquiring HIV, while PEP is a short-term treatment taken after potential exposure to HIV to prevent infection.

PrEP is typically recommended for individuals at high risk of HIV infection, such as those in a serodiscordant relationship (where one partner is HIV-positive), individuals who engage in condomless sex, and injection drug users. PEP is recommended for anyone who has had a potential exposure to HIV within the past 72 hours.

Absolutely. Our mobile STI testing clinic adheres to strict safety protocols to ensure your well-being. Our team consists of trained healthcare professionals who follow all necessary precautions to maintain a safe and hygienic testing environment. Additionally, our testing equipment is regularly sanitized, and all procedures are conducted with your safety in mind. Rest assured, your health and privacy are our top priorities.

When taken as prescribed, PrEP has been shown to be highly effective in reducing the risk of HIV transmission, with some studies reporting up to a 99% reduction in risk. PEP is also highly effective when started within 72 hours of exposure, but its effectiveness decreases the longer it is delayed.

You can access PrEP and PEP services through our clinic by scheduling an appointment via our website, calling our office, or walk-in. During your appointment, we will assess your eligibility for PrEP or PEP, provide counseling on medication adherence and risk reduction strategies, and prescribe the appropriate medication tailored to your needs.
